What Does the following X-ray Indicate? 

What does it mean when an x-ray report says this...INDICATION: Lower back pain IMPRESSION: Degenerative changes DISCUSSION: Alignment is normal. There is no visible fracture or pars defect. There is mild disc height loss at L4-L5 and L5-S1. There is mild bilateral facet arthritic change at L4-L5 and L5-S1. The SI joints appear unremarkable.

Hello, Thanks for writing in with the details of your xray report.
Degenerative changes denote age-related changes occurring in the discs (cushioning in between the vertebrae) and other parts of the spine.
With age the discs dry out and lose their compliance and height and then may also involve the small joints in between the vertebra called facetal arthropathy- like an arthritis.
Over time this results in pressure on spinal cord and nerve roots resulting in pain,limited movement, and nerve injuries.
Treatment depends on type and severity of the condition, with mild exercise and medication being the most useful.
Kindly speak to your doctor, who can plan your treatment to control the pain and increase muscular strength with some exercises.
